WDFW can't do anything as they were not there to observe the incident. Plus the guy was apparently fishing on the Quinalt Reservation where state laws do not apply. Other than that the keeping of burnt out piss poah eating quality is his problem. I hate to say it but I'd bet on about a third of this states rec fishers behaving the same way.

Wow. Talk about a broad brush stroke. In my experience, some do, some don't, just like everyone else.

I didn't get to see the film, is the guy a member of the Quinault tribe? If so, then maybe someone like the Potter's could straighten him out. If he is not a member then he should have been with a guide if fishing on the Quinault, right?

You just have to be with a tribal member, not a guide. He was "fishing" Salmon River.

It is not fair to group them all together like that. Some bad apples spoil it for all. No worse than "sporties" snagging.

He deleted the Vid before I got to see it. We do have our own regulations and there is no snagging allowed on the Quinault reservation. If thats him in the picture posted above, he is not a tribal member. Regardless of what you might have heard, most tribal members do respect our resources. We have one of the best managed fisheries in the state. It is true, "some bad apples spoil it for all". And Ron White IS right, "You cant fix stupid" but you can correct ignorance.
So tell me luke, is this guy the only non-tribal fisherman to ever snag fish? Funny thing is he is a non-tribal snagging fish on my land.

Ruben, no offense, but how can you tell if he's not tribal or not? Only reason I ask, is I'm part Choctaw, and you'd NEVER be able to tell. My wife has enough (and not sure on the tribe, but the one Sealth was a part of) in her to get full bennies on the reservation her Grandma goes to. But you'd look at her and automatically think she's Irish (which she is, but took more after her Irish roots then her Native American roots). Unless you know every member, then I guess you'd know for sure. But had some friends I went to school with (I grew up on what was considered Puyallup Indian Reservation) who were about 75% Puyallup Tribal Indian and looked whiter then white.
That was meant sincere as well. I agree that you can't label a snagger, since every race has their snaggers. Some of the nicest people I've met have been of every race and creed, and some of the rudest I've met have been the same.

I dont recognize him. I was a tribal cop for seven yrs., grew up in Taholah, resident cop for lake quinault to kalaloch, tribal enrollment commissioner. I know all the guides, all the fishermen. There are about 2300 tribal members. I know most. Never seen that guy before. Maybe he is indian, but he aint Quinault. Your right, we come in all shapes and sizes, especially after the boat people started showing up. You know, from europe (thats a joke).
I just dont think its ok to say the "indians dont respect the resources they continually rape". Our treaty was ratified by congress, just like any other law. The Quinault treaty ceded 3 million acres to Wa. state. Everything south of the Makah treaty, west of the Olympics, and north of the Columbia. It included the 7 tribes within that area. They gave us 208k acres in trade, and the right to keep half our fish (good deal huh). The state lost a federal court ruling to take the other half during the boldt decision. Which is now case law.
The BIA controlled tribal fishing and logging and was influenced by politicians who were supported by big timber and commercial fishing companies that stood to loose alot of $$$ with the Boldt decision. Thats what that fight was really about. Those were the true rapist, do you think they cared about our rescources?
I could go on and on but theres really no point if it falls on deaf ears. I'm sorry, I dont mean to offend anyone. & Im not here to debate or fight. Im just another steelheader.
