opening day my buddy Ron and i headed out a little undecided as were to go. the wind made up our minds to go out to the clearcut. we sat down about 10 minutes b4 daybreak. as soon as we could see anything we were staring at 9 cows off in the distance. out of the timber came a 3x3 bull. i knew Ron seen em and it was a long shot but didnt know why he wasnt shootin. i sqeezed one off and saw the bull wobble a bit he turned and i shot again then ron shot almost at the same time. he dropped and we headed over. Ron was closer so he got the tag. after we got some help from camp we ranged the shot at 455 yds. ive never shot that far b4 but all shots hit home. glad i bought that new scope!!!
The next day around 10am we switched from our earlier spot to a little alder patch i love. around 10:30 i heard some crashing below me. i seen 3 cows and heard more but couldnt see them. then i heard somthing down and to my right walking up the draw. i couldnt move cause the cows had me pinned in. after they milled over the hill i looked down the side to see a nice 4x4. a 20 yd shot and it was over. i hed back to camp to get help. i white pickup shows up and guess who it is. caughtsteelin and my buddy Todd PERFECT i said hi guys get yer rain gear on i just shot one and yer just in time. not only did they help pack it out they stayed and cooked steak dinner for my whole camp. thanks guys. 2 bulls in two days was incredible. this was also the first time Ron had hunted with me ,i think he'll be back next yr. i have pics coming soon i hope. Mike

Nice!
Saw a few elk last night out of the unit, and tonight I found 3 cows in the unit, but they had a calf with 'em and I couldn't figure out who "mom" was so I passed. Hopefully tomorrow I'll also join the club.

Good job!!! We hunted our usual area over on the Little Naches, but burned 3 cow tags. Just could never get in the right place at the right time. Had some cows pass our camp at about 10 yds in the snow while we were out humpin up and down the hills. Shoulda just stayed at camp around the ol' camp fire. Mrs Nav is having second thoughts about how much fun elk hunting is after she worked her butt off this year again. She was sure we were gonna score at least one.

Mitch, sounds like the last elk hunt I was on before I quit hunting for good. Small group of elk had obviously run through our camp while we were humping some God-awfull rough country during the day. I fully considered staying behind in camp the rest of the time as armed camp bitch, but stuck it out with the rest of the group and none of us scored, but no new tracks through camp, if that was any consolation.

Anytime you can put your scope on a legal bull is a good day in my book.
