Whistler in late May early June- what's biting?
      #269443 - 12/04/06 06:51 AM

Anyone have any reports of what to expect that time of year? Either bankin it or rental boats/canoes.

Or would it be better to be around Banff vs Whistler?

thanks for any info

Banff is Awesome dude. So is Lake Louis then north to Jasper. Then in a southwest direction--check out Wells Grey. You wont find much better as far as Beautiful Places. Then make your way to I think its 10-mile or 100 mile road-it will take you through some beautiful area with MANY MANY lakes-I thought I was back in Minnesota.I saw many signs for fishing access and lodging and camping-a canoe would be perfect. Then you can follow the Thompson River--near Spences Bridge you can bank for Springs (ck the regs). Then make your way to Chilliwack and hire a guide on the Fras. Not an easy river to fish without a boat--but definately worth it. IF snow melt has settled--later June would be best weather wise too.

can't really change the dates too much as this is coinciding with a reunion in Cal over Memorial Day weekend, otherwise I'd be all over the late June idea

if you stay in Whistler, your options in late may are pretty much all lake fishing for trout. Most of the rivers should be in spring run off then. All streams will have a bait ban and be catch & release for anything you catch. I am unsure about the fishing in Banff. The link shown earlier to Fred's is nowhere near Whislter. The local tourism office will have a list of local guides. Most are fly fishing only. All the BC interior streams will be closed to fishing for the spring spawning season. So no fishing on the Thompson at that time.

I fished Whistler once during the summer about 6 or 7 years ago. Hiked along a paved bicycle path that ran along the edge of a lake. Caught a few small cutthroat [10-12"] throwing spoons & spinners. If you fish there and you find the needlenose pliers that I lost there, please send me an e-mail.

For some Whistler info, you might want to check out this other board. BC Fishing Reports It's not as good as our own, but there are some good people in there. There's also some Adam Henry's as well, but they're called out pretty quickly. There are some very knowledgable guys there, and some very helpful, and some of them are both. They don't have anywhere near the depth of talent that this board has, but they are locals (Eh) Some of the Canuck-speak is a bit obscure, but email me if you need a translation.
Biggest point of confusion is the Chehalis. The one up there is very productive at times and much smaller.
