my father inlaw lives in gold beach. he says you can catch perch all year long. the secret is for best success the surf must be flat with very low surf breakers. sand crabs are the best bait... if there is any to had.

North of GB is good from what I remember, should be lots of places to park and just work up and down the beach.

Don't recall fishing the south side, but sounds like you will have a few areas to try after the boat comes back to the docks, look along jetties (CAREFUL!! watch for the tide!) and the different docks and piers nearby. Don't forget to ask your charter captain.

I'm currently in VA, 5 mins south of Wash DC, but thanks for the invite
I spent lots of my youth in sw OR, and still come to Douglas Co to fish and hunt a few times per year. I'll try to share a few hints with you as they come to me.

April-May is when the red-tailed perch school up and head into the estuaries to spawn. Fishing for them should be smoking hot at GB. I'm severely jealous!

Maybe a thin strand of mixed pink and orange and some scent would help if you are fishing bait. If they are where you cast with good bait then they are gonna bite the bait....voracious feeders in my experience. Two of us boated somethin like 85 of them in 5 hours at a spot inside Grays Harbor during their May spawning run. I've also got them on flies and scent on a slow erratic retrieve.

Maybe small shrimpy micro jigs. I wouldn't bother with anything else as far as lures go. Bait is #1 followed by small shrimpy flies and likely jigs. Bait is gonna really outfish flies and jigs though.

4 or 5 miles north of gold beach? would that be nesika beach, or breakers as we call it? i heard that people just snag perch around gold beach cause they are so plentiful. i would give another vote to natural bait only, it will out produce any artificials.
