World record bass? new
      #239148 - 03/22/06 06:04 AM

This will not stand for several reasons. Snagging sucks. I have a feeling that they were bed fishing. One thing it does talk about shows that catch and release does work. I've read about this Bass 2 other times now and I've seen the other pictures. I'd say it's the same fish.

Wow I though there was some huge ones in Lake Casitas last time I was in Cali. That thing dwarfs anything I have ever seen!

why would they even review a fish for record status when it was foul hooked?

IGFA rules allow for unintentionally foul hooked fish to be submitte for review. It up to the committee to allow or disallow a fish based on eyewitness accounts and the evidence submitted. These guys decided they were not going to submit the fish anyway. I think it was a good call on their part. Any world record submission should be blemish free, IMO. Unfortunately, the current world record is suspect, because the guy had no witnesses other than his family and friend, and he ate the fish before he could be disproven. Apparently, he weighed the fish, cooked it,and ate it. He then submitted the scale and his gear to the IGFA for verification. Back in the 1920's that was standard practice apparently.

Personally I'd like to see some 8 year old with a Zebco catch this hen and set the new record. That would be funny!
