Lab or is it... new
      #275011 - 01/22/07 07:21 AM

Still working on a picture to post but I am in a delima. A guy I work with recently had pups. Father was a yellow lab and mother was a black. The litter had 6 yellow, 2 blacks, 1 chocolate and a black with copper markings on it's feet and face. If I didn't know any better it looks more like a Rotwieler then a lab. The thing is I dont know any better and my wife being the person she is just has to have the unique one out of the bunch. (all the yellows, chocolate, have sold and he is down to the 2 blacks and the one with the copper markings. I know this guy pretty well and I have seen the parent dogs (he owns them both). He wont entirely discount the possibility that another dog got into the picture but he is 90% sure this is not case.

Is a dog with the markings I described possible out of 2 labs?

Thanks for any thoughts you may have on this.

I don't think that is possible. I'd go with a different litter if you want a purebred. If you don't care, then go for it!

Thanks Jim, because we are in it more from a family pet standpoint I dont necessarily care if it is not a pure bred...But I do want it to be more on the labby side and I am not big on the Rotwieler thing, if that is even in the picture...gg

hehe hahahahahahahaha.

Is it possible yes. Anything is possible. Depends on the lines of the dog. At puppy stage it's hard to see what they have in them. There is nothing wrong with Rotwielers. I've known several that are the biggest babies you can imagine. You can train a french poodle to kill. I would be more worried about genetic health issues. This is why I spent $800 on a highly papered dog for a pet.

She is guaranteed on health issues and it shows. I figured that in the long run (vet bill wise) it was a logical decision. Shes a smart bitch and at times I wonder who's in charge.

Definitely not a pure bred lab. Occasionally you will see some a small bit of white on a black lab that has blue blood papers going back many generations. There is a pure white version(I've seen a matched pair of females pure whites in a litter) of the lab and supposedly a silver. Looks like yours has a bit of Rott in it and you are going to have one very large very smart loving loyal family dog that will also likely be one heck of a hunting dog if you choose to use it for that. My critter WhiteDog is a very large male cross of White Lab and Chesapeake. Satisfactory as a companion except when he hits the Canadian Mist a bit too much. Works fine for a hunting dog except for his singing.

Thanks everyone for the positive comments! Like I said, the wife is in love so it's a done deal. The crate training process has begun and we have another dog who uses a doggy door to go outside and is already teaching the pup how to use it...gg

One of my friends has two brothers that are lab x rot and they are great dogs. They're large but not huge, probably 80lbs or so. If he didn't cook them bacon and eggs a few times a week they'd only be 70lbs a piece.

Millie may look like a lab, but she's got tan fur on her feet and butt. Not much, but enough. She doesn't look like her mom and sister, who live up the road. They both look like there is some hound in them and all three seem to have a lazy streak and a droopy loose neck.

Mutt's make wonderful family pets.

Gene I have a feeling Gordon is going to have some size to him. Probably the best advice I can give you is the dog needs to be entertained or they will find it. A very cool toy my mother bought for Trouble is a "Dispense "a" Treat" ball. You can load it with dog food and it will keep them busy for hours. I was at PETCO this weekend and they have a the same version but you can record a voice message when it's rolled. Awesome entertainment that will spare your furniture.

Puppies. I lost two pairs of Danners boots, both right boots but I did have to left one but I walked in circles.
One sofa a chair a baseball bat two fishing rods a kwikfish I think with hooks and wraped but never came out over 16 years many shoes garden hose 50 footer was in like 30 little ones, some under garments that were left on the floor.
and the list could go on.

Great Looking Dog!!! Gordon is a great name too. My labs name is Cody. He acts and gets treated just like a real person.

By the pics he does look like he going to grow alot. Mine looked the same when I got him 3 years ago and now hes about 105. Likes to eat he does.
