My dad's buddy seems to think the natural baits work the best, whether it be bass, trout, or salmon.

Live Nightcrawler for me...Haven't used grasshoppers for a while...Totally forgot about them little buggers...They work great too.
For Lures I've had great success with Panther Martins and Roostertails mostly.
Also, have had great luck with a Joe's Fly's "Short Striker Trout Special Number 215". Was fishin a summer or two ago out on the Olympic Penninsula at Jefferson Lake up in the mountains and was nailing them with that thing...Had the most fun trout fishing then I had for quite some time.
Also, have had good success with a Mepps XD 1/12th oz. pictured on the left. It's got this really shinny stuff trailing the hair...provides a great attractant

#1 Mepps, silver blade, red tube. Been catching trout on different sizes of this lure since the 50's. However, they do say you catch the most fish with the lure you use the most...

If i want to catch lots of trout i'd go with a olive bead head wooly bugger or a painted bead.
If i want big fish i.e. over 24 inches i would have to say a 4 to 6 inch olive articulated bunny fly with large barbell eyes. If you take away the months of september and october when beads and flesh flies rule pretty much all my 30 inch plus rainbows come on this fly.

Good call on the Panther Martin, that's another favorite, a great lure for high country lakes.

Watermelon Rooster tails are deadly in my neck of the rez. Then again, this time of year you gotta match the hatch...

Was just pondering this again and for the little stocked lakes I have pretty good luck trolling a floating fire tiger Rappala. Seems to work especially well if you are rowing.

Lake: BorntoFish must be fish'n the same water as me; those #1 & #2 Panther Martin silver bladed yeller bodies and red dots are flame'n hot, especially in high mountain lakes.
Rivers: #1 & #2 natural color(olive, brown) Rostertails are money. I stick with brass blades, but I like silver blades with a black body.
Thats my Bankie/Wade'n two cents.
Should we discuss top fly honors or should we just give it to the old stand-by wooley bugger? You should always match the hatch, but you can never go wrong with a WB; it mimics about 84 different things trout eat.
