I took an Open Ocean Diving class 10 or 15 years ago and I still have my PADI card. My question is,is it still any good. Do you have to re-cert every few years or is it good forever? Nothing last's forever so I doubt it but I just thought I'd ask. I haven't been in probably 8 years or so.

If you can remember Boyle's Law, Charle's Law and ...er...uhhh
Ok I would need to re-cert. My last PADI cert was in nineteen-eighty-sumthing or other. I think I can remember how to float. You should consider a refresher course and definitely a medical clearance.I think the PADI cert doesn't officially expire, but our brain cells do.

Hmmm well Ok. Brain cells?? what's that.. I think there's a place nearby that teaches some courses but I'll have to wait until it warms up a bit. I'm hoping to go diving in Maui in the end of April. If they don't expire then maybe I'll just try to find some online courses or something.

You going guided or by yourself? The guides are pretty good about keeping you out of trouble since it's their name on the line if anything goes wrong. I went diving in Cabo last Christmas and prior to that, I hadn't been out in about ten years. I found it was like riding a bike (and the guide served as the training wheels).
