I originally posted this in the trout fishing forum but after thinking about it, I probably should have posted it here. Anyways, here it is again.
I'm heading to Missoula to visit a buddy for St. Patty's day weekend. Our plan is to hang out there, then head down to Butte for a couple days. I was hoping someone might have a few suggestions on places to try casting the fly rod in the Missoula area and/or in or on the way to Butte . I'm not familiar at all with Montana so anything would be helpful - Thanks!

Its a ways from Missoula but the Missouri is awsome. Fish near wolf creek, Big streamers for big browns. It is some of the best trout fishing I have ever done. Lots of fish to be caught on a fly rod. I usually go every spring and summer. If you get the chance it is worth it. For spinning gear big husky jerks can produce big fish there.
Good luck!

IF your going to Butte any way, stop and fish the tail water right at the state mental hospital exit. I am not sure of the exact exit. It is closer to Butte than Missoula, about 90 miles from Missoula or so. Any SMALL nymph will work. Lots of nice rainbows and browns. Strictly catch and release.
