Just can`t hold myself back any longer. I`ve been reading all the trash talking A.K. Scott has been doing on the other thread. While I completely agree with him that the fishing on the western side of P.O.W. really is the cream of the crop. I will now tell you the rest of the story! Waterfall guides are nothing more than slime guides! As far as I am concerned they shouldn`t be in the same conversation as a salmon guide. For years and years there was the storied tradition of the Guide Pool at Waterfall. Before each season started each guide ponied up 100 bucks in a pool for the biggest king caught on his or her boat (yes there has been at least one female guide) that season. I can tell you honestly that winning the guide pool was huge and being in the lead was truly some serious bragging rights and a huge part of the daily game. Nothing was better than the smack that it entitled you to lay down. Well I have been informed that they don`t have the Guide Pool anymore. No way you can call yourself a salmon guide if you let that slip away period
What have you got to say about that #10

You think Waterfall is the only resort that has a pool? guess again. Why do you care? I entered it for a few years even won a little $$$, as for bragging right, that had nothing to do with me entering, I'm a competitive person and enjoyed what it added to my season whether I collected anything or not. Bragging rights? so I guess you were there and heard all the bragging, I missed it, usually on the last day of the season the head guide would hand the winner an envelope and say congrats, anyone else around might give him a pat on the back or a "good job" and that was about it, no big ceremony, no guide drunk fest, no chest beating. I honestly don't see why you care, I know all the feedback I got from guests was positive, I think they liked the idea that I had an added interest in them catching a trophy fish, the guests did far more bragging about there guide getting a potential $$$ fish then any guide did.
If your going to call us out why not man up and add your name to the post???

Goose is right, it needs to be civil!
With that said,
LeekyB, You don't really make your point other than being a disgruntled client or employee? Which is it?
I've known Akkings for several years as a friend but first as a guide, i've seen nothing but integrity and professionalism in the way he conducts himself!
We on this board listen and take heed to what others have to say...be accurate and have facts or I personally will disregard what you have to say...
You've said your piece about WF....never been there...probably never will afford it....what really is your point?

Obviously Leekyboot I'm not afraid to put my name down as to who I am. How about you? "NA" isn't exactly a name. Pretty easy to bash someone while hiding in the closet. I've already figured out, that by you putting down #10, you were probably one the guys who was either at H2O or in Craig in the early to mid 90's. Heck, I haven't been #10 for 12 years. Guess your info isn't exactly upto date. Oh well, in case you haven't figured things out, everything has been in fun on here. When someone thought it wasn't, I contacted them personally to let them know there's no malice in any of our statements. Just good hard ribbing with both sides understanding this. As for whether having a "Guide Pool" or not decides who is and who isn't a Salmon Guide, that just doesn't make much sense. You are correct, in the old days we did have a pool. Anymore, not as much. Does that make someone less a Salmon fishing guide? If so, please explain your thoughts, as I'm sure alot of us would like to know your reasoning. Scott

Scott, looking at his history, 9 post since 2001, I wouldn't expect a reply anytime soon.

I'm really not expecting one, or should I say a truthful one. This comes across like a disgruntled employee from the past.

Ya know... I was a rookie guide at Waterfall last year. I was thrilled and honored to get that position. I heard about the Guide Pool, and didn't elect to participate, like several of the other rookie guides, and several of the senior guides.
I think I might just participate this year.
That being said, IMHO, being in the pool has no relevance to your ability to catch fish or entertain and make your clients' trip fun and sucessful.
I certainly met no one at Waterfall that would be considered a "Slime Guide". This comment only sounds like sour apples to me.
The judge of my preformance as a salmon guide,in my view, is the letter I recieved from a guy from Arkansas whose son had saved the money for their trip to Alaska. He told me in his letter about what a wonderful time thay had had, the scenery, whales, eagles, and oh yes the great fishing...He said that it was his trip of a lifetime. I still have that letter and keep it with me as a reminder of what it's really all about!!!
OH Yeah!!!I'll be heading back up there on 21May for another great year!!!

Guess that makes them REAL Salmon Guides. Oh no, I might go cry because someone attempted to talk trash about me. Okay, that's over. If they do, can we enter it from the other side of the island? I love donating to a cause.

Speakin of pools, anyone up for friendly wager? Scott, Scott, Mitch? It's the waterfall guides on this board vs the Grizz den for the biggest fish of the summer. As to the waterfall end of this, the fish MUST come from your boat and not just from the lodge and Grizzs fish must be legally caught and not snagged and can be caught by anyone who is involved at the Grizz Den! I'd think a good wager would be a CASE of Alaska Amber to the winner, I'll even buy if it's ok with U all!

I'm game, but I don't drink anymore. Haven't for a few years. I'll pay up the Amber if I lose, but rather have soda in return.

How about this? The loser(s) has to come on here and post "That (the winner) was a better Big King Salmon Guide than they were for the 2007 season." I had to do this once before in a side pool with another Guide. Personally, I have no problem praising someone when they outfish me. Besides, it would give alot of people some laughs on here. How about that also?

Mad? I wouldn't quite use that term. Just think it's funny how some people like to criticize but will withold info about themselves. As for "doing the very thing I called you out for, not doing", sorry, but I've been in pools every year. I enjoy the competition.

hey, can i play!!! I'll buy a case of whatever for the winner, for i know i had a hold of a monster last year at the grizz Den, but then again, he was tail hooked, but this year, i will not enter any snagged fishys but only true tidewater tactic kings!!! I'm not even a guide, but, i'm there at the Den for a week and this sounds like fun and i drink alot of beer and that can get spendy sometimes ya know so ya, i'm not scared! Warren, i have to ask to play on my own for i know that i'm the only one that guides myself the whole time while there lol!!! Just tell john i need his whaler for a week!!!

Oh Leeky Boot, time to come out and play. You know, last night you definately had me thinking. First, Who do I know that lives down on the Penn. that would be from the old #10 years? Second, Who would be afraid of putting their name down on a simple form for a fishing website, in case "Big Brother" was watching? Third, of these names (which already I had narrowed down to one), who owned a White Dodge 4x4 from around the 96' vintage? Name stayed the same. So Bucko, sounds like your White Dodge 4x4 is still parked in front of the shop for sale. Yes, it's possible I'm way off track on my guess, but don't think so. Everything about your first post just sounds like who I'm thinking of.

Well he kindda is. Didn't you see the picture he posted of his catch this summer? I try not to make too much fun of Mitch. For you know, my parents tried to teach to respect my elders and he is a hell of alot older than me.
