ifish365, There are certainly people that agree with you about the Harringtons as bobber rods but there are fewer and fewer of them. I do not buy the arguement that they make good bobber rods for the following reason. The Harringtons are very heavy and slow in reacting. So when you have quite a bit of line out to the bobber and the bait is 8 or 10 or 12 feet or even more below the bobber, and maybe the tide is running so you have a big belly in your line, when the bobber reacts the key to getting the hook in the fish is to be able to pull a lot of line very quickly. When you come back very hard on the Harrington it is very slow to respond so there is not much force at the hook. A powerful graphite rod will react much more rapidly resulting in much more force at the hook. If you look around in your area you will notice that most all of the experienced bobber fishermen are converting to graphite and their Harrington's are sitting in their garages. If you are not convinced Lamiglas is now making some glass blanks that are almost identical to the old Harringtons but they are made of better fiberglas. I can get the model numbers for you if you are interested.

i do agree harry, my favorite bobber rod is still my sar1265c which is also a very slow rod, i hate the stiff kenai killer and similar, they do not cast good and they are too stiff when fighting fish on braid, i also like my harrington for sturgeon fishing and rockfishing from shore, they are very multi purpose for me, i like my 205 for bobber fishing springers, i was busting 30lb leaders left and right with my 1265 on the hookset. you do make some of the best all around bobber rods i have seen, and i believe those are a lamiglass blank.

ifish365, Yes, I agree that a little slower action rod that is longer makes a better bobber rod than one that has a faster action and is shorter. The speed that I was referring to above though was not really the action but the speed of recovery or the velocity. Graphite will recover much faster than glass. The higher tip velocity means more force at the hook. The one place where glass is probably better though is in the combat fishing where there are a lot of rods around banging into each other. Glass is much tougher than graphite. But there are a lot better glass rods available today than the old Harringtons. They were fine 25-30 years ago when we did not have anything better but not these days.

ifish365, I am not really very familiar with the Seekers. I have heard pretty good things about them but I have just not seen very many of them.

I have seen a lot of seekers, none of which have been FLOAT rods! Seeker makes a damn good rod tho, no complaints that i have heard of, only fished with a couple bottomfish sticks and they are pretty sweet!!!

chris, why aren't they a good float rod? 9' 20-40 1pc, seems like descent specs for a bobber rod. just curious.

Well, i personally don't think i've seen a nine foot 20-40lb seeker that wasn't built with Eva grips sturgeon or bottomfish style, 9 ft is also not long enuff for myself and 75% of my fishin is done with a float! I don't go under 9'6"! I'm guessing that rod would be very heavy as well! My guess is that is a live bait rod for lings/other bottom species!!!

i know that, but i have seen them tied for salmon and they seemed nice to me, i was not reffering to the cork tape and eva handle factory rod. i think years ago they bought sabre, and those are a nice salt water rod. seeker i believe does as well have a line of salmon rods, i'm not positive though.

Actually i got two of them, one thats got about an its broke off of it so its like 6'5", pretty fast action, AWSOME keeper sturgeon rod, lings, or halibut! I also got a 7 footer thats got the handle set for a spinning or casting rod, this would also be a great sturge or ling rod!!! Both rods seem to be in the 20-50lb class, but there are no blank numbers on them! I'll pm ya additionaly info!!!

Cool. I need information on the 7 footer. Spinning or casting? Real big eyes? Has not been broken?
