Sekiu Salmon Derby
      #284282 - 04/09/07 03:50 PM

Well I fished the Sekiu Salmon derby this weekend with my dad and little step brother. Had a great time on the water both days, but got skunked on keeper Blackmouth. Only salmon we got was about a 2 lb shaker. We were doing a little motor mooching in front of the caves. We would have done more mooching but we had three people in the boat and one was a rookie at mooching. All the big fish came on downriggers and there were some nice fish. A 19.67 took first place and a couple 17 pounders and 14 to finish the board. After the good section of the tides we ran to area 4 looking for sea bass, but we couldn't find any but we got some very nice Kelp greenlings (sp?). Some of the biggest we have ever got. That is always so fun to go do that. We use light line and small jigs and worms to jig around the kelp and they just freak out when they come out and strike your jig. So we had some nice fish tacos that night. We also got about a 6 lb Cabazon in area 5 so we let it go but man it was a nice blue meat fish. We also got a few lings that we C&R, they looked tasty; but we got some good R&D in for the upcoming ling season, can’t wait. Overall a good weekend and saw some nice fish and had some great bottom fish action.
