ADF&G has just annonced the 2007 chinook limits for S.E. Ak. from Yakutat to Dixon Entrance, beginning immeadiately the limit for both resident and non resident anglers shall be 12 chinook per person a day with no annual limit or minimum size. This will stay in effect until sportfishers harvest their 17% of the 329,400 total allowable chinook for harvest by S.E. Ak. sport & commercial fishers, which is 55,998 sport caught chinook.
ADF&G expects to make another announcement sometime in early to mid June announcing the closure of ALL S.E. Ak. chinook salmon fishing as the quota should be met by then, do mainly inpart to the incredible early season chinook fishing expected once again on the outside of P.O.W. Is. where Waterfall resort and there 80 guests a day will potentially harvest 960 kings a day in their gillnets, the 55,998 king quota and subsequent closures are expected by June 10th.
This is also an attempt to protect some of the later arriving, inferior Ketchikan/Neets Bay hatchery fish from the hordes of local as well as Sequim/P.A. snaggers.
ADF&G is also announcing they expect phenominal coho fishing throughout S.E. Ak (including Waterfall area) and have raised the coho limit from 6 a day to 7 in an effort to keep anglers happy after the chinook closures.
