McChord Kids Fishing Derby
      #286402 - 04/22/07 01:52 PM

Kids fishing derby at McChord AFB was Sat. A friend of mine brought his 2 youngins, 7 and 4. He last fished when he was 10, now in his 30's. He has no clue. I helped him out by rigging his kids with what I had. My daughter got a small trout. The next 2 she handed off to his son and daughter. All about 11 inches. We decided to put his sons rod on the "LUCKY" rod holder. A few minutes later Fish on. He landed it and it weighed in at 1lb 14OZ. His first fish on his own. He was very excited and proud.

This all came about because his ex-wife let him have the kids for the morning before she took them up to Canada. It was her weekend.

My daughter felt better by helping than by catching her own big fish, which she didn't.

Jake, that is Carter lake, located on McHord Air Force Base. Not Crater lake located in an old volcano...

O yes, there are fish in Crater Lake.

It was planted back in the late 20s or early 30s with a few species of trout I believe.

Fishing is more of a novelty idea than a reality there Jake.
