Region 1-Southeast News Release

SOUTHEAST ALASKA KING SALMON SPORT FISHING REGULATIONS FOR 2007

Juneau- The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is announcing today the 2007 sport fishing bag and possession limits for king salmon in Southeast Alaska and Yakutat which will become effective 12:01 A.M. May 1, 2007. The Regulations are:

Ø The use of two rods per angler is allowed from October 2007 through March 2008.

Ø Alaska residents: bag and possession limit of three king salmon 28 inches or greater in length; no annual limit.

Ø Nonresidents: bag and possession limit of two king salmon 28 inches or greater in length in May and one king salmon 28 inches or greater in length for the remainder of the year; an annual limit of four king salmon 28 inches or greater in length for the entire year .

These regulations apply in all marine waters of Southeast Alaska unless otherwise announced. The nonresident annual limit of four king salmon also applies in all freshwaters between Cape Suckling and Cape Fairweather.

The 2007 harvest allocation for the sport fishery is based on a preseason abundance index of 1.60 as determined by the Pacific Salmon Commisssion’s Chinook Technical Committee. This index equates to a 60,900 king salmon allocation to the sport fishery. The Southeast Alaska king salmon management plan prescribes that the regulations listed above be implemented when the king salmon abundance index is between 1.51 and 1.75.

For further information regarding sport fisheries in Southeast Alaska, contact the nearest ADF&G office or visit:

http://www.state.ak.us/adfg/sportf/region1/r1home.htm

For additional information contact Charlie Swanton, Regional Management Coordinator , (907) 465-4297.

And the KETCHIKAN TERMINAL HARVEST AREA season should be set the end of may or the first part of June. (Rumor has it to start June 11 with a 12 king salmon of any size)

Here we go Grizz. I guess we'll be living fat on the HOG(King) with our 12 per day around June 11th, while the Waterfall guys are stuck with 1 PER YEAR after June 1. Ouch. My arm hurts already.........I guess the Non-Res are getting hooped this year, well, unless they come to the Grizz's den.

I guess it's going to be a short season for the Waterfall boys this year. It doesn't take long to get the 1 fish yearly limit. probably be a lot of 1 day turn arounds.......I'm feeling a little bad for the boys

If Janine has connections, maybe she can get Chrissy a room at the Native Rehab Center.

I read that as the bag & possesion limit is 2 in May & then 1 there after.

That doesn't change the annaul limit of 4. To me that means I can catch my limit for 2 days in May and for 4 days after May.

I don't know the state of Alaskas definition of Possesion I assume that its fresh (unfrozen) procesed or unprocessed.

Am I wrong?

Grimm, If you catch your limit for 2 days in May, you won't be able to keep any in June. The annual limit is only 4 per year, so if you get your limit on 2 days in May you're done.Sorry

I'm bringin the hog gear this year, but that ain't gonna stop them fish from rubbing ya off on them barnacles when the tide is coming in! There are also a few when the tide is low that they get ya on, them fish usually head straight back out and if ur lucky, they don't get chased by the FB's and if ur lucky, they won't hook a sharp right and saw ya off! If ur lucky!!!
