I am heading to Gilpin county Colorado on June first. I am taking the rod and reel with. I was hoping for some info on any good streams or rivers to hit. Any one out there who has fished in that area could be of great help to me. I want to tie up some flies before I go. Any advise would be great. I have 8 days in the area so I will figure it out eventually. I would just like to be prepared before I go. I would rather tie my own flies than use someone elses product. From what pictures I have seen, there are trout as big as our steelhead in some of the rivers there.

I don't know about gilpin but I do know that in southern colorado in the arkansas river area the rivers are really only worth fishing as a cold water fishery. I know that about an hour away from gilpin (about an hour west of colorado springs) there are some really good rivers that hold trout to over 10lbs and are fishable in late spring. Sorry I don't have the name for you but call some shops in the area and they are sure have more details. When I lived in Pueblo, Co I got my info from a little fly shop called Arkanglers. Look them up, the guy who owns the shop knows all the fishing opportunities in the state and can point you in the right direction better than I can.
