surf blankfor a float rod
      #287238 - 04/29/07 07:18 PM

I want to build a heavy float rod for chinooks. What I want is a longer rod 11'+ , faster action( for the power hook sets) and somethig with a 20-30# line range. I have found the rainshadow SU1386F meets this criteria. Anybody have any reasons why this would not work?

Thanks

That should get it done, you do lose sensitivity going that heavy but gain some umph on the sets.

When I use a three oz float setup for chinook, I have a 10`6 Heavy action glass casting rod/surf rod that works very well. Its not for fishing all day, but for fishing those holes you know that you are going to hook hogs and want to get them for sure. It doesnt even blink with a twenty spot fish and will handle almost everything this state has to offer.

That shall work just fine, IMO, little to much rod, The ISA1446 would do it just fine!!! Its 6" longer, only rated 12-25, but its not gonna be nearly as heavy as the SU when fishing it! Thats personally what i'm goin to build or the ISA1266 for alaskan kings! Both rods have PLENTY of backbone to turn the big boys and PLENTY of hookset power, and they are the same action as the SU1386!

does rainshadow have a rod similar to the sar1265, that is an all around nice bobber rods, you just have to be careful on hooksets.

Mike, look at the BP1265 and the BP1266 Rainshadows, they are very similar rods to the SAR! Also look at the RDR100H which is a Forcast! The line rating is quite as heavy, (rods can be underated and overated in all companies) there are some i pick up and think wow, this feels heavier than 25lbtest, others i pick up the feel lighter than 25, but yet the both say 25, u know how it goes! I'd fish the same line on all of them, probably 50lb braid (i know u fish 80 lol, personal preference) if i was gonna fish a rod that large in which i'm goin to build one soon for alaska! They are real similar rods and u would be very happy float fishing with any of these!
