Idaho turkey new
      #285910 - 04/17/07 08:55 PM

Turkey season opened Sunday in Idaho.
I took a friend and he got one Sunday. 22lbs.
Great day as I saw 13 elk grazing while I was sitting and 25 or 30 deer during Sunday's hunt.
Monday we returned to the same area and by 7 am were back to the pickup with mine. 9 1/4" beard but not as heavy.
With a full day ahead and awesome weather we decided to hunt squirrels and try out the 17hmr.
We had tried to go to our squirrel spot a month ago but were stopped by snow. Anyway, the squirrels were out and plentiful. More elk, deer, grouse and of course a herd of turkeys with two big toms in it that we watched for 30 min.

It was a great time. Also, that savage 17hmr is lights out on squirrels. I love the accu-trigger.

I got mine on Friday. I missed a few with my bow before I grabbed the old shotgun. He had a 9" beard, and 1" spurs. Its been a great year, my buddy and I have had 7 mature toms all within 30 yards, and lots of jakes ta boot.

Great job. Sounds like you've had some awesome hunts this spring. Gets my heart pounding when birds are gobbling and coming in.

Good job on the Turkey guys. I am still trying to fill my tag. I have only had the chance to go out twice, I went yesterday and last Saturday. It is crazy how things can change once the season starts. Two months ago I was walking up on flocks of 40 birds. Now I only see birds on private land or hear stories from campers how they were gobbling by their campsite this morning. I'll keep trying though, hopefully my luck will change before the end of the season.

Slim, that bird is in his back yard. He said it would be too easy. Plus I think it may be a pet now.
