Yeah, I think Orvis had one that was a flap affair, with Velcro closure, for use when you unhook fish. I'm careful to wade ashore for doing any other chores so I don't end up damaging the rod - you can usually place it well out of harm's way.
Strange - us Fly Fishers only need them for very much, only changing flies, or replacing a leader, or unhooking fish. We are usually careful to carry them so we can get through obstructions and trees, brush, etc. without getting tangled (or worse!)
