Westport tuna fishing new
      #288435 - 05/08/07 08:12 AM

Can anyone offer me any info, advice, insight on a chartered tuna trip out of westport? A few friends and I are planning a mid August trip. I have checked out all the websites and it appears "all" the boats catch tuna. I am just hesitant on dropping 500$ for a charter with 200$ for gas on top of that just for 1 or 2 tunas ( of course that is better than no tuna:)) I see that there is no limit for albacore and I guess I interrpret that as meaning there are lots of them to be caught but is the fishing really that way.

Went out with these guys last year, mid September, which was apparently a little late. Had a blast as being my first time. Fishing was alittle slow, would get a couple here and there. Then at sunset we had a school that stuck around, seven of us probably landed about 40 fish in 45-60 minutes. They are awesome to play around with. I looked at his log, his earlier trips were in the 90+ fish days.

It was a deal to me cause another guy dropped out of my friends group.

Went out of Westport about 50 miles, trolled jigs till we found a school, chummed to keep them around, and threw out our live anchovies till we got hit.

The Ranger is a good boat. MM and I fished it for Halibut in May. Good crew.

By the way, I saw the "Tail" mount. Looks pretty good on the boat.
