good deal!! the ocean has been crazy flat for this time of the year, no wind or a little south wind for 9 days straight, i think my last 9 days of work made me kind of soft, we had a little wind wave yesterday but still nice, has the warm water been effecting the bite, do you have to fish deep?

My experience is the warmer water has turns the bite on, but the damn things tend to stay out and not come in until late in the season, happened year before last and its happening this year!

Chris,

On the coast, the colder water is in close, the warm water is off shore. Whne it's warm in close, the salmon go deep. The reason the water is warm inshore is due to it being blown in usually. When that happens, we start catching tuna 4 miles out on hootchies (or breaking them off anyway). Check out the SST site, it shows sea surface temps.

Rumors of Dorado being caught off Oregon are already starting to surface.

Coho is slooow going this weekend. Fished with J.T. out of Depe Bay. 11 on the boat, 2 fish caught and kept. Was super flat in the early am and then got nasty around 8. Warm water is right. 65 degrees! I even took a swim.

maybe tuna will turn to an anadromous species this year....... well we got a week ahead of us of north wind, that will push that tropical water back out where it belongs in short order.

Well all i know is they bite just fine in the warmer water, El Nino years have been some of our best around here! Never went deep either, caught plenty of silver in the first 30ft. of water! Kings on the other hand did go deep, i think they are a bit more touchy!

Heard of a marlin spotted on a tuna run out of Garabaldi. Also heard of several big Dorado spotted in the blue water. It could happen again.

Greg, Great Whites are relativley common all up and down the coast. THey actually prefer inshore waters. I know guys that have had several encounters with them while abalone fishing and surfing.
