Downsizing for Humpies?
      #296409 - 07/29/07 10:02 PM

OK, so here is a question for the board. If you are fishing off downriggers would you bother downsizing your gear when you are targeting Humpies, or would you just use the same old rod and line that is on there for Coho.

Downsize and troll slower. Small pink hootchies or spoons.

I wouldn't worry about the leader, but personally, I'd use the msall humpy special. It just works, so if it ain't broke...don't fix it. I've done fine with a pink spoon behind a pink deep six too.

If you are using rods on the heavy side, I'd use something smaller. Otherwise, I think you won't have as much fun and will lose a lot more fish.

As Gooose says slower.

Yeah, my standard boat rods would be a bit much for 2-4# fish.

You I think this means I need to take a trip to the tackle shop. Heh.. No one tell my woman!

For more fun, use a light rod and no flasher, just a pink spoon off the downrigger. I normally run at least one rod like this and it catches about the same number of fish as the others.

Not all of us can live or visit AK. If the only fish around are Pinks, you either fish for them or don't fish.
