Anybody that has fished the Kenai in late July knows how bad the traffic can get on the river. We witnessed a full speed t-bone that ejected one driver and bloodied a few guys up pretty bad. Rumor has it the driver blew a .08 2 hours after the crash.
On the bright side, sockeye fishing was red-red hot for the week we were there. Here is a shot of my buddy with one of the kings he bonked.
BTW, that's not fish blood in the boat.

The net got bent becuse they used it to fish the driver out of the water. I have some shots of the driver and his boat but I don't want to post them because this event will probably go to litigation.

Starboard hit but abaft of amidships. Guy that got hit probably had the right of way. If it was forwards of amidship then the guy who got hit might have been in the wrong if he was simply underway...if he was backbouncing or anchored up then again he would have the right of way.

Kong, Was that the one last Thursday morning? We came along right after this happend. Saw the troopers talking to the guy on shore. This was a bad wreck, and will not be good for the proposed regulation to increase the horsepower restriction to 50.
The lower river in July can be scary enough without an idiot who's drunk.

Yes, that is the same accident. We were cleaning fish at the Riverbend lodges and it happened right in front of us at the top of Falling In Hole.
It was loud. The guys that got hit were in our camp.

What?????????? There are quite a few facts that are unknown to be talking about fault. But I'm curious about the whole fore or abaft of mid-ship comment. They were both power vessels, most likely not constrained by draft, not restricted with reason, not sailing, and not fishing (remember USCG does NOT consider a vessel fishing with lines as a fishing vessel)so your fore and abaft of midships description of fault comment doesn't make much sense. Start talking about stand on vessel and give way vessel. Was one anchored? Did the one guy actually blow .08? Was one person driving eratically or making course changes? Like I said earlier, too many unknowns to start talking responsibilities on our part. Unfortunately, just another tragedy that puts a dark cloud over the ones that operate their boat in a safe and professional manner. Hopefully none of the people involved had too serious of injuries and all who saw or read about this incident will learn to be more responsible.

Yes and yes. He blew a .08 1-1/2 hours after the accident as was subsequently arrested right there in the parking lot at River Bend. All the aft and mid ship stuff probably flies out the window once you are determined to be operating a motorized vehicle under the influence of alchohol. My .02
