Welcome to SH.net Sean.

Usually a story is the first post from a newbie, but maybe it will be your second post eh?

Anyhoo- there's a ton of info here on this board to get you started, just spend an hour or so reading through some of the terrific info in the "fishing reports" tab near the top of the page, right side.

Your question is almost too vague to answer with specifics, but there are many methods that will produce a fish or two if you put the time into it, and learn the water you will be fishing.

Well if its a story i need then i might as well tell what just happened to me 2hours ago while fly fishing.
I was fishing Gales creek i have only caught 2 6inch coastal cuts so far on my fly reel so far but it changed today after catching another 6 mabey 7 incher i hooked a biggen he tore out my drag and i fought him for 5 mins as he got close to me i tryed to walk him out of the current i sliped on a rock fell in the water wich caused me to pull him so i dident land on my pole and I broke the leader. He was a good 14 mabey 15 incher heading up stream.

I would like to know what timeof year to fish the wilson for steelies and salmon and what your guys favorite methouds are.

right now for summers, flip rocks, find crawdads, peel tails looks for fast water deep enough to hide a steelhead, don't be afraid of fishing whitewater if there is anything close to soft water below it, and go back to your trout roots, 6lb line, splitshot, and a loose drag. summers will eat crawdad tails to their butts, so it seems like an easy way for a newbie to catch some fish, keep us posted and welcome!

spinners are good, #3 mepps in silver or brass has been my favorite for summers. as far as time of day, i catch as many steelhead in high sun as any time, there are certain holes that produce better in low light but most don't, many times when you can see summers in slow pools, they are tough to get to bite, especially in high sun, look for fast water, i fish spinners by casting straight up stream and burning them down. small bobbers in moderate current have been producing alot of fish for me lately too, craw tails or shrimp.

Don't believe that fish can't be hooked during mid-day sun.

My last trip, two days the bite didn't come until 11 am.

365 suggested "flip rocks" or you can use a trap in just about any river, stream or lake here on the south coast.
