I just caught a headline from the local paper where it seems the almighty coho has returned to the South Umpqua after a 50 year hiatus.
I haven't read the story, but just knowing that the coho are rebounding in this river is a great sign.
I used to catch coho out of the South Umpqua when I was in HS, right across the hiway from the HS as a matter of fact.
Maybe I put too much of a hurt on 'em as a kid? NAH, I never kept any of them, but there was a good-sized run.
Glad to see a return.

Thats cool. Never knew coho were ever in that system. Fished the s umpgua for steelies around tiller. Is there a hatchery on that river?

O yes, since 85 to my knowledge.
Try winters around Canyonville to Round Prairie, very good hatchery system...

orcas, great whites make me nervous and there are too few to dent the population, we need about 100 resident orcas, then again, they eat salmon too...

ifish365 If i remeber right there are 2 kinds of orca the ones that eat seals and the ones that eat fish. This was told to me by a whale waching guild so i think its accuret.
