Here's why Caveman moved the porch instead of tearing it down.

Homely little critters when they are that age, and look at the size of those yellow holes. I think a loaf of bread would fit in that one on the left.

What kind of bird is it?

We had a starling have babies in my old grill. It was shocking one day to open it up, and see 3 mouths gaping at me. I was taking the grill to the dump and she (my wife and oldest daughter) made me move it instead. My wife actually saw them fly for the first time. She thought it was cool, but I had to keep spraying the sh!t off the top of the playhouse, so I didn't think it was too cool.

Barn swallows. The nest is in it's second year of use and the momma knows us and trusts us from last year, when the nest was just a few feet from the back door.

We sit out there a few feet from the nest all the time and watch them. They're pretty tolerant of people.

We had some of those try and nest in the entryway to our house last year. Didn't let them though 'cause we didn't feel like stepping in bird poop every time we left the house.

Back in Idaho our hay barn used to have hundreds of them nesting up under the eaves. The sky would be full of them at dusk.

I made a mini movie of these guys. Tripod legs are too short for a closer pic.
