i just pulled the top section off the dryer this afternoon. here's my new "big gun":
lamiglas XSH1202MT certified pro blank(10'0" 8-17, 1/4-5/8) forecast textured reel seat with tich plated hood forecast hi-frame single/double foot guides, tich plated frames with aluminum oxide rings(i've never cut even a cheap oxide guide in all my years of fishing, so i wasn't gonna spend $5 or more apeiece).
wrapped up in gudebrod garnet nylon thread, size A, with silver HT trim wraps and color preserver. forhan locking wraps on all the single-foot guides.
a little detail(i need a better camera!):

alright, the shiny new daiwa luna on that thing might upset some of my fellow ABU followers, but this thing sold itself to me. i still love and cherish all my ambassadeurs, and will continue to collect and fish them extensively, but it never hurts to love other brands as well!(at least it's not one of those plastic shimanos!)

Nice tight trim wraps!!
keep in mind the extra five bucks you spend will only last as long as the rod does hopefully a life time, doubt many things you buy in life for five more bucks will out last your guides. The H rings are sweet too..

that's true, but had batson offered a regular non-tich zirconium ring in the "VD" style, i would have bought them! kind of like having a little contrast to my guides...

TCVDUG blue ring is one of my favorites for contrast, TCVDNG gold ring would have looked sweet with your new reel. Nice looking rod like it is for sure

had i known i would be going with the luna i would have gone to a gold color scheme with the guides/trim. original plan was a 5 bearing, '70s model 5500C built by jerry foran, but i'll save my order to him for when i build my beach/surf rod and get a 6500CT instead...
got a chance to fish this thing this morning, and it's a real rocket launcher for sure. can't wait to get it out on the big rivers to see how it really performs
