Got an invite out of Westport on my buds 22ft Sea Sport yesterday. The kings were nowhere to be found, but sure had a good time on the Coho.
Ran out heading slightly north to about 250-260 ft until we found mass quantities of bait and started trolling south with the swells on the stern.
The action would be hot and heavy, then slack up, then hot and heavy again. Seems the fish were in segregated schools. If you hooked a clipped fish, chances are you'd hood another. Same with the wild ones.
We ended up with well over 30 hookups, many right next to the boat or on the center rod with the bait in the prop wash.
The fish were all getting to be decent size, much larger than they were on the 23rd of July charter trip we did. Average was around 5-6lbs with bigger specimens coming close to 10.
This was a great warm up for Sekiu. Made me wish the tilla was next weekend. Also made me look forward to this season on the GH rivers.
