Another great Grizz Den adventure
      #302042 - 09/16/07 08:31 PM

Things are finally settling down now [long story] so I'll try to capture the essense and do justice to the great time that Uboat/Mel, my son Travis, and I had this past week as guests of Warren/Grizz at his home on Herring Cove. For those of you who haven't had the opportunity to visit this area let me say that it's a little bit of paradice that you won't soon forget.

Just as we [Travis and I] experienced last September, Herring Cove was once again stacked heavily with Humpies beyond imagination for anyone who hasn't seen this spectacle before. While some local snaggers were successful in their efforts to get the few silvers showing in the creek, our more conventional efforts provided only humpies. Even the local pair of geese came down to the beach to coach us, but snagging wasn't in our agenda. Nonetheless, it was entertaining to watch the run and associated action of these fish.

Warren's new-to-him boat [yet to be named] proved to be an excellent fishing platform for the week. And the weather couldn't have been any better as the pictures will attest.

Lead Bouncer said: Griz, when I look at that photo of the kid with the red shirt, Im thinking you guys need some photography lessons. Your customers will thank you for it down the road. A great picture, will motivate more people to go back. A recorded trip with all kinds of photos can mean a lot to a client. But, they have to tell a story and they have to be photos they can be proud of.

Taking Lead Bouncer's cue, Warren made a serious effort to appear in almost every picture, knowing how critical this will be to recognition by future "clients" and to enhance his marketing.....

BTW we did allow Grizz to catch a few fish, but as you can see, he wouldn't let any of us in "his" picture.

Not certain how we managed these 2 pics without the Grizz-Man...oh yeah, we had to pay him off.

I have many more examples of fish porn but will only offer these last examples as a tribute to the daily catches and to Warren, the man who made this all possible....

Pinky graced us with a visit, both around the house and in the boat one evening. The F&G finally brought out and set up a baited trap. That evening these efforts resulted in the capture of a sow [not Pinky]. How'd we determine this? Well Mel was surprised to find 2 cubs seated behind the trap when he went out to inspect the catch the next morning.

Getting out of K-town proved to be quite an adventure in itself. We awoke Friday morning to heavy fog. The weather kept our jet and others from landing for several hours and it was slowly looking like we would be spending another night at the Den. To make matters worse, we already knew that our travel plans were further complicated by Alaska Air's safety/performance issues that had grounded all their smaller commuter jets [Bombardiers] which affected the last leg of our planned travel [Seattle to Boise]. Things got quite strained and hectic in the closing moments as our "Freedom Flight" made it's landing. Ultimately we were routed from Seattle through San Francisco to Boise on United Flights. Instead of getting home by 5 pm Friday we dragged our tired butts home at around 1 am Saturday morning. As would be expected, with all the schedule shuffling, our luggage, rod cases, and 4 boxes of frozen fish were no where to be found. Instead our parcels logged frequent flier miles with trips to Chicago, San Francisco, back to Seattle, and ultimately Boise. I'm glad that I purchased dry ice to pack into each insulated fish box. When I opened the boxes 38 hours after packing them, the ice was gone, but all the fillets were still frozen solid. The last of the parcels to arrive home [Mel's bag] arrived early Sunday morning.

That might not be such a great idea since you did so poorly in your earlier post. Maybe you should set the camera aside and just concentrate on baiting the rigging and killing that damned "Pinky."

Yeah, poor kid....at least Travis has a good sense of humor to help him deal with that. And Doug tries so hard to be just like his Dad, Warren. Both are great sons and it's nice having the opportunity to share such moments with them.
