Grants Pass should start producing good catches of steelhead twards the end of the month and all of October and November! Im not sure about Chinook as I havent fished for them much in the middle Rogue. Nightcrawlers and roe will work best for gear fishermen and nimphs and glo bugs work best for fly fishermen. Should really pick up once the salmon start spawning!

Ya just got back from a couple hours of Nothing except trout pecks and a slight salmon tug...
One foul hooked by someone else and like 5 rolling...
DEAD!!!
Cant wait til they spawn

When do the salmon normally start to spawn in GP? I'm living in Eugene now and will be taking a trip to GP soon but I want to wait until the salmon are spawning. Thanks

Salmon won't be spawning until the rains hit in early November, until then they'll be hanging in tidewater waiting to run upriver

actually we start fishing steelhead when i said and there are already a ton of them spawning so maybe that is the smaller rivers... and they cant go back to the tidewater when they are already all the way up by GP

From what I heard the first big run of fall salmon are destined for the upper rogue and the second of the fall run is destined for the illinois. That would make sense why there are fish there now and through the fall. Can't wait to get into some nice steelies!

It's going to be 'interesting' to see where the run numbers go this year. As of Sept 10th there were only 3700 summer runs over Gold Rae of which a few hundred are already in the Hatchery. Fall king numbers are a bit better, but not much.
Given the flows have been at a constant 1800 cfs out of the dam (reduced 100 cfs last night) I don't know if the fish are just not coming up out of the middle (GP area) river ... or they're just not there.

I have heard that they are in the middle rogue and some people are catching them. Most are trying for salmon at this point.

i have a lil secret spot that i havent been in forever but the last time i was there i hooked 2 salmon and like 5 steelhead and it was like this time last yr or 2 yrs ago
