Just wait a few more days, right now its hit and miss, but there are fish still being caught. With the rain in the forecast for the weekend next week should shape up nicely.

The Coos and Umpqua Chinook returns this year are as poor as I've ever seen.

Tony, they were in poor numbers in the salt as well.last weeks Coos river Salmon derby, 2 days, 246 entries, 46 fish caught, largest was 33#, Umpqua river derby the Labor day weekend, 3 days, less fish and winner of 32# normally it takes a 45# plus specimen to win either one of those derby's. I own 1/4 mile of riverfront on the Coos system so I see it first hand and they're just not here. one of the best Coho years I can remember if that's any consolation.

My buddy is fishing the OR coast river this weekend, based out of Waldport. Any suggestions on rivers that hold good numbers of fish at this time? Thanks.

I believe Tillamook Bay is going to be like it is every year....good. Tides and maturity are what causes them to enter the bay, not rain. We have to be patient, there is a 1 million plus fish in the ocean waiting to come into the bay.
Timing, maturity, water conditions.....those are the key.

I just got back from 3 days of fishing down there. WE got three fish out of the Ghost hole on wednesday (19,21 & 38)then we got skunked on thursday. Headed south to a secret river one hour south and went 2 for 3 on big kings. 29 and 30 pounds. Missed one more right at the launch as we were calling it a day. Not alot of action but that's 137 pounds of total weight for 3 days.
If you haven't king fished in Oregon yet you are really missing out. I just don't know how you guys deal with all that salad at Tillamook, it's rediculous.
Pics to follow later in the week.

Very nice, those are great fish.
The salad is part of the game, it gives you something to do at least once in a 10 minute streatch. You wont get bored.

A couple of fish made an appearance today. Its not exactly the "peak" of the run, but there are fish there if you are willing to work for them.

What are YOU waiting for?

Spent 3 days on the 'tucca. Lots of rain, lots of fish,no biters. We got a 36 lbs. hen on wednesday trolling spinners. That was the only bite we had for 3 days & as far as I know the only fish caught in tidewater that day.Like I said , lots of fish, NO BITE. I did catch a 9 lbs summer at the mouth of three rivers last night, but that was the ONLY take I had in 3 long days of fishing I blame it on the low pressure but who knows? The water is still pretty skinny, things should break loose one of these days. I did catch a buzz though, lots of different Pelican beers

I troll herring mostly, rarely will I change to spinners. A good tight spin like a football is the key to success. Match that with a good brined herring, and you will have magic.....I guarentee it.

'Where are they????'
Here on the upper Rogue (above Medford) we're asking the same question whether it be about the summer steelhead or Fall King run. Unless there's a huge change in the next few weeks this will be the worst "season" (possibly) on record.
Yikes!!

Fish cant read a calendar, there are more things that dictate when they are supposed enter the fresh water than a calendar. We humans think that because our calendar says they should be here, then something is wrong with the runs if they are not here.
Think more like a fish and less like a human.
