Meat down!
      #305018 - 10/10/07 10:20 PM

I headed over to the dry side yesterday to see what I could find, hoping to test out my new .458, but my elk hunt got interupted by a deer, this nice 3x3 mule deer with eyeguards and it is very symetrical. Thankfully I brought my muzzle loader.

You just have to love suicidal deer. Saw about 40 elk, but none in the area I could hunt.

GREAT deer.

I'm wondering if you had to pay an "access fee" to shoot the deer on someone's front lawn

Just kidding!!! Hoping to get my boy on one this weekend.

Ryan,

I'll head over there again for elk in November, December, or January when the river blow out. I have until Jan 31st for my second elk. I will also need to re-arrange the freezers a bit.

Sorry about the photo on the lawn, but I find it much easier to shoot deer munching on shrubs.

Actually, I was alone over there and my attempt of getting myself in the shot didn't pan out. I also wanted to get it cleaned up before taking any photos, as there was a bit of red stuff involved. Never saw a deer bleed out like that, but I guess the two 1" holes on either side of the chest cavity kinda helped things along.

For those of you who haven't hunted with a muzzleloader, you might want to rethink that. I only saw two other hunters in two days over there, and on Saturday and Sunday there might have been 10 all combined.

Better than our blacktails, not as good as the Alaska Sitka deer.

Shoot, I didn't notice you got that bad boy with a Smoke Pole. Nice job !!!
My experience on the taste is dictated by what they've been munching on.
I shot a local blacktail that was hanging around a strawberry field (See Pic). Meat was AWFUL!!!

Was this a special permit hunt with your MHE? Or one of those muzzy hunts they make available in the middle of nowhere.
Nice deer Mark!

General muzzleloader hunt, open to everyone one on public land. I saw nobody out there, and I was in the right unit. It was ridiculous how little pressure there was.
