First blood, part two!
      #305231 - 10/12/07 08:09 PM

This has been some vacation. I think I'll be calling it the "Looking for things that are alive and making them dead" tour.

Headed out deer hunting with the boys today and Ryan connected with with a nice grouse, his first! He snuck up on the gun and got bit by the hammer, but he took it like a man.

Later on Fishdoc gave me a call, asking me if I wanted to kill an elk, so we bought a tag for Hunter and his grampa, and after a successful drive, Papa Don missed a shot of less than 100 yards. Hunter and I did get within about 20 yards of some, but no bulls. That's why they call it hunting

Well, now I gotta get packed up to fish tomorrow.

It was great meeting up with you guys today! I got Ryan alone in the truck and congratulated him on his grouse...he was pretty pleased with himself. I looked the grouse over and it had a pellet hole in its foot and I kidded him about shoot it in the foot and just said...hey, if I killed it by shooting it in the foot than thats fine with me!

To bad Papa Don missed was hopin for a heart and liver dinner.

Hey DF, is that a Silverwings background behind Ryan??

The breast had about 8 pellets in it, so he hit it pretty hard, considering it was a .410 from about 25 yards with 11/16th oz of #4.

Photo was by Ray Rd, just up the way.

Due to my past experiences with me younger brothers hunting efforts when he was around 16-18 years old I suggest you may need to look at acquiring a larger garage and several more large freezers. When your two young lads get their drivers licenses they are gonna seriously dent the elk, deer, bear and game bird populations and you'll need the processing and storage space.
