I'm looking at a 308MXLR Marlin levergun. It came out last spring and having lever gun that will shoot 308 Win. ballistics. 308MXLR 24" Stainless Laminated stock is sweet looking also comes in blued 22" walnut stock. WFFF

Been a few years since I've handled a Marlin lever action which was a 30-30 Mod 336. Action was a bit stiff to work compared to most other lever actions but was a solid gun. Is this one a clip fed or tubular magazine? With a tubular mag you'll be stuck with flat points and the ballistics that go with them.

Hornady makes a ballistic tip with a soft bullet nose that is designed to be safe in tube mags. They sell it as leverevolution. web page

Cool info WAID. We use to load some 30-30 rounds with spitzer bullets that were near the .308 in ballistics. Those rounds were the first in the chamber followed by flat tips in the magazine. That was in a Winchester Mod 64 with a 24 inch barrel. Gave the 30-30 a bit better effectiveness.

I love the lever actions for a brush gun, provided it's a close encouter with a chance to squeeze the trigger.
My last 4x3 blacktail(2003) was with the trusty 30-30. A 75 yd shot, quartering away, with his head turned back looking at me. BIG MISTAKE!
One round through just below the left eye, out the top of his forehead. Can't say as I wasted any meat
That was a fat deer too, he had eaten many acorns, apples, and grain.

I agree with ya Goose, the actions are stiffer, it seems to me, in Marlins.

Sounds GOOD! I just hope it doesn't go the way of the .307 Winchester, which purported to be a .308 (ballistics) in a .30-30 sized cartridge, but with flat-nosed bullets.
I may even consider one! I'll just see how long it lasts.

I love the .308 I have an old Savage model 99 lever action .308. Mine has the internal rotary clip. Later models had a normal clip. I also like the Browning BLR in .308 It was just about the same overall length as my .30-30 Winchester. I used to hunt in brush and from horses so the shorter rifles were the best idea.
