Source for Semi-inletted Rifle Stocks
      #305634 - 10/16/07 08:33 PM

I need to replace the stock on my Win 70 pre 64 .243. Looking for sources for quality semi-inletted stocks.

For a pre-64 Winchester, don't you want a classic American Walnut stock, rather than a synthetic? (Just asking)

Boyds
Richards microfit
are two common places for stocks.

I need to have it reblued also. I use to be able to do this myself decades ago using the stuff I could get from Herters but those days are gone.

Ah the good ole days when Herter's sold anything you could desire for outdoor adventures through stores and catalogs, wait a minute that was before my time, grandpa however bought so much stuff from them that I am still using it.

Yeah, they were a good source for everything from fine wooden gunstocks to anything to refinish a complete rifle!

Now it's hard to find an outfit like that!

Thinking of having the 22 inch barrel shortened a half to one inch. Reblue it. Maybe a few other metalwork tweaks for appearance. Then have it fitted to a decently fancy wood Mannlicher stock with a carved Schnabel forend.
