A friend at work has a number of Japanese visitors wanting to go hunting for Matsutake's this wknd. I know nothing about shrooms, (although I've been called a funguy). I see a lot of different shrooms on my hikes, but don't know which is which. I also don't like shrooms, so don't really want to know which is which.
Are there any likely places for matsutakes within 2 hr drive of Redmond that I could recommend?

Geoff I can't help as my spot has been clearcut and flattened by bulldozers. I would find a buyer and bribe him with a bottle of good booze for at least some general directions. A good guess on my part is any low elevation public timber lands in the Hamma Hamma to Hoodsport to Shelton area. Doug Fir, Pine, Salal, Evergreen Huckleberry and lots of thick moss are what you are looking for as far as habitat goes.

Don't know where Pike Place is. They don't let my kind on that side of the lake. I hear tell they sell old fish there. So bad they gotta throw it at the customers for em to take it
