It was posted a while ago (last year) a support for our troops thread. Well, no one is responding. The 3rd Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Div (Ft Lewis, right here at home) just got back from 15 months in the sandbox. 48 combat deaths. 69 total Soldiers lost. I have a SGM meeting tomorrow (WED) night and I would like to be able to say that our board is supporting them. FGB and RR have, and Chinook has paid for multiple trips with our guide sponsors (FGB, RR and PW). What I would like to see now is our general membership folks with boats take these guys and gals out; is that too much to ask? I have a meeting at 0900 with the WTB (Warrior Transition Brigade) CSM; who will take a wounded warrior fishing? I'll get names of actual combat wounded, not some broke dick sorry ass. Let's show them that we appreciate their sacrifice!!! My boat is first! I need and beg your support! Remember, freedom is not free, and if we do not finish the job in Iraq, we will fight the battle on our home turf (if you do not see that you are either naive or simply uninformed=stupid=Democrat) The radical Islams goal is to conquer the world) If you don't believe me you had better start reading and get off of the computer or do some searches about radical Islam intent. Specifically the strict Islam law. Let's PLEASE support our returning wounded heros! I need your help to do this! Wheelchairs are a possibility, as are prostethic arms. As most of you know I work in Madigan Army Medical Center, please help me help THEM. Thanks in advance for your support! Mike

One new wheel bearing and my boat is back in action. It's a prop boat so we're talking Salt, Big C or lower Chehalis. You've got my phone number.

SGM, I'm in, I also have a direct line to the WTB as I was the PM for their facility work, still communicate with the Cpt a few times a week. After this weekend it will be a few weeks before I can, but I am sure we can work something out. Maybe a mini tilla' on the Chehalis or another Grays Harbor river that we can take a few guys out on and make a day of it.

I'll take some of them fishing. I don't have a boat, but I tend to do pretty good banking the local rivers.
I took my cousin who came here on leave from the army fishing a month or two ago and put him into some humpies and to this day he is still going on and on about how much fun it was. It was great seeing him so happy after hearing all the bad things that he has gone through in the middle east.
My cell # is in my signature, i'll be out of work for the next 2-3 weeks because of a slow period at work so i'll be free. Only problem is I don't have $$ for gas, so if anybody wants to pitch in a few bucks for me to take a wounded soldier out fishing i'd appreciate it. I can take them locally, but there will be a better chance of hooking into them if we burn some gas, and drive upriver to the "sweet spots".

Ok guys, it is GAME ON! I put this out at the Ft Lewis SGM Association meeting tonight, and tomorrow it will be broadcast to every Sergeant Major on the installation. Nick, I will personally cover your gas money, PM me the bill (hope you are not driving a V-10 like I am). Get a couple of the guys on the river for chums, put them into fish, and they won't care! Your point about your cousin is spot on; just get them into fish. Mike, DB rides will be outstanding. If we have wheelchair bound Soldiers, my sled will handle that just fine. Jeff, CSM Brenda Ferguson (who I'm sure you know from the WTB) is on board with us since they are side by side with the hospital as you know. Trouthead, I know some places on the Cow where your prop will be just fine. Some of the guys may actually prefer to bass fish! Grizz, I appreciate the offer, but Alaska is a bit far, BUT we have a Wounded Warrior Brigade at Ft Rich, I'll call you on taking them at least bottom fishing. I'll see about getting our message up there. Doc, will send you a PM on your most generous offer. To the board member who called me tonight to offer seats in his boat and a seat he has upcoming with one of our sponsor guides (who wishes to remain anyonomous) thanks oh dry one. To all of you who have stepped up to the plate, I give each and every one of you my personal thank you. Also to FGB in particular, and the other guides, who have taken out our heros. FGB has donated I don't know how many free rides to our troopers (I even got to whore a seat on one of the first ones two years ago). And especially to Chinook, who is going to be pi$$ed at me for spilling the beans, but he has paid for at least 5 or 6 troopers on guided trips out of his own pocket--from a one income family with a kid. I guess once a Soldier, always a Soldier. Thanks a ton Jim.
Here is the deal. I'm am going to put this out to the Ft Lewis SGM community through the Corps Personell SGM (he has the mass blast e-mail list) tomorrow morning, Soldiers coming home from deployments have priority. Purple Heart receipients have A number one priority. Let's face it, each and every one of us would be honored to take one of these guys or gals fishing. Again, I thank each and every one of you who have offered to honor these folks. I also apologize if I was a little "testy" last night when I first posted this, my temper (aided by a few Buds) got the best of me, but I stand by the points I made. We owe these folks a great debt for fighing on freedom's frontier, even if you don't agree with the war. If anyone of you who has offered seats and needs rods, plugs, etc, please let me know and I will try to assist you. Freedom is not free! You guys and gals are the greatest!

That is very generous of you. I don't have a V10, but I have an 01 Dodge Ram with a 5.9L 360 in it. Gets 11-13.5mpg. Can you say "gas hog"? But I can fit 6 people in it total, so if I can get a full load of guys that's 5 passengers.

Well Nick, I need my old anchor mount removed and a new one (Columbia system) welded on my aluminum Wollie.....mobile welding man We'll break even. And I'll pay for that too. Taking these guys out is a personal thing, in case it's not obvious. I have two of my Soldiers in the sandbox as we speak.

OK, all Steelhead/Salmon guys close your ears.
I also know some pretty great Perch jerking areas on Lake Washington for those troops that would rather do that. Fish up to 14 - 15 inches, really good eats. I've read a couple things about Bass ........

I'll take em out, it would be an honor to be of assistance. Drift boat, jet boat, bay boat, whatever they want.
Chums are starting now and we get plenty of them, I can start soon.
I travel a great deal for work, but I can go on weekdays and weekends when I'm in town.

Now that I am a member of the McChord Top 3, I will pass it around for the guys just getting back here at McChord. If I still had my boat I would run a few myself but you know how that goes.

Damned, wish this was posted a couple days earlier (I was on vacation when it was posted). Was down salmon fishing, had open seats a couple days (had a friend back out coming down at the last minute).
I'm in for sure Mike. I'm hoping to have the driftboat fishable in a month or so. When it's open, I'm game.

The following was sent to every Sergeant Major on Ft Lewis:
Fellow Sergeants Major. I frequent two internet bulletin boards whose primary focus is on fishing, www.steelheader.net and www.ifish.net There are many fishermen/women on these boards who would be honored to take our troops fishing. These folks are in Idaho, Oregon, Alaska, and here in Washington. The first priority are those who have returned from deployment, to include our Wounded Warriors. Soldiers who have not deployed are also welcome after we exhaust the requests from returning troops. Please share this with your 1SGs and other subordinates.
I can be reached at: Michael.kurtz@amedd.army.mil fish4steel@fairpoint.net
Most of these trips will target salmon and steelhead, but there are also bass fishermen, walleye fishermen, etc. Please help me in allowing our civilians to show appreciation for our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines!
Thanks! Mike
