Duck hunting at SilverWings
      #306984 - 10/26/07 05:09 PM

I realized today that a lot of folks have shown interest in Duck hunting and with that realized that I have done nothing to try to make that happen. For those who don't know SilverWings is my private farm with a couple of good ponds on it once we get enough rain. We hunt out of a mobile blind because of how the water fluctuates sometimes almost day to day. Two years ago we shot mainly widgeon and teal, last year for some reason the mallards showed up and never left...alot of greenheads didn't make it back to Canada. We hunt primarily Wednesdays and let the ducks believe that it is a safe place to be the rest of the week, however that rule goes away if there are a lot of ducks around and then we will shoot Saturday or Sunday as well. This is an open invitation to any SH.Net member who would like to be a part of this this year. The blind shoots 3 comfortably and you can literally do so with tennis shoes if you don't have the normal duck gear. So...just put your name and phone number(s)down here on this thread and I will put a list together. If your comfortable emailing that information feel free to do so to: runwildrivers@yahoo.com

Lets hunt some ducks together this winter!

You have my numbers. Put my name in the hat, and I'd like to bring a boy if possible, maybe papa Don.

SilverWings is located 4 miles South of Elma, Washington in the Chehalis River Valley.

Sure hope the ducks show up because I am really looking forward to hunting with all of you!!

I'd love to take you up on the offer, but I'm the ultimate cracka when it comes to bird hunting. I have an old Mossy 500 with adj choke, that carries a warning not to use steel shot, so I don't think I could even use it.

I'm not much of a shot either with shotgun. I've done a wee bit of sporting clays, but not enough to get any good at it. I'm good to learn though.

Workin...head the warning on the mossy 500...I shot the barrel out of one...my all time favorite gun but alas...

However...all is not lost. With two boys off to college I do have a spare laying around...plus we can always shoot some clays after a morning hunt.

I have a full choke steel shot barrel for my 500 that you are welcome to use, and I only live about 10 miles from the farm. When your turn comes up, let me know and I'll run it down there. I'm switching over from my 500 and 835 pumps to the Mosserg 935 autoloader.

Fishdoc - that is really nice of you to offer up your farm for use on the board like that. I'm sure that everyone will have a great time.

I get to hunt the valley plenty, so I don't want to take anyone's place. If you have an open spot one morning though and need a filler seat you can pm me. I only live about 3 miles from the farm it sounds like. I can pretty much do any Wed morning if I know the day before so I can let our secretary know.

I live out on the river myself, and when the ducks are in I know right away because I can walk out at dusk and just listen and hear them all over. They are definitely not here yet.

Yet again, this group just overflows with generosity. I'm speechless. Well, OK, almost. Well, not even close.
What's really funny/sad is that north of the border, 'loaning' a firearm, even for use directly under your supervision, to anyone who does not have their little collection of laundry tickets saying they are authorized to touch the demon sticks of death, buy ammo, etc, would be illegal. Here, it's called being right neighborly.
