I want to build a crappie rod new
      #307498 - 10/30/07 07:41 PM

Hey guys, I am new to the forum and it looks like you are the local experts on rod building. I have decided that I would like to build my own rods to spider rig or troll for crappie in West Ky and TN. Do you know where I could find blanks for 14-18' graphite trolling rods or spider rigging rods for crappie? Am I insane? Do I just need to forget it and buy my rods or is this a do-able hobby that won't make me crazy?

Any help would be appreciated.

not sure about where you could find the technique specific blanks for that but a spey rod blank might work , 14' 6 or 7 wt. maybe , it would be a three peice blank though . Just a thought anyway .

Look at Anglers workshop, Mudhole, Merricks Tackle, online for all the components you'll need.

correct me if i'm wrong but i always thought the 10-12' and longer crappie rods were called "poles" where there is no reel, just sort of a clip system for sticking them far into brush to jig for spooky fish from far away.

That is one style of Crappie rod. With the creation of Crappiethon tournaments, new technology got involved. Do a web search and you'll see some crazy stuff but it works.

Hey Rush...my advice would be a snoopy rod and Silver Lake in Cowlitz County in October/November...always worked for us!
