Heard there are nooks in Detroit Lake. Anyone fish them? Looking for any pointers or info on season (time of year) depth, baits, lures, etc. Thanks.

A fun lake, that's for sure. It's big, like Riffe Lake. It's cool that it's fed by at least two rivers. I forget the names and don't have my topo map in front of me, but, I've had great success fishing in both arms and across the flats. When you take Hwy 22 up there, you will cross one arm and that arm has excellent trout fishing from just before the bridge/marina area up under the bridge all the way into the mouth of the river (easy trolling). The other arm is a few miles past the first. Boat ramps are before both arms or IN the second arm. The second arm has the bigger river feeding into it. This is where I've seen Kings caught before. Never got lucky myself and didn't target them either. The whole stretch of that second arm is killer, just watch the water skiers later in the day. From what I've seen and heard there, the Nooks are along the boat ramp side of that arm and out towards where it opens up into the main lake, along the rock walls/banks. It gets deep right there. The Kings I've seen caught were surprisingly in close by the boat ramp though as they sit and feed on the trout, not just the planters either! I watched a guy clean a 7lb Nook and remove an 11" and a 13" trout from it's stomach! And, of all things, he caught it with rainbow powerbait just off the bottom.......go figure. Anyhow, I'm fond of this lake, camping on the island is excellent, tables and bathroom there. Between the river arms and the island there is a big flat out there (watch depth later in year)that produces a lot of trout. Hell, trout everywhere! Trolling a green woolley booger (sp?) has worked excellent everytime I've been there.

not really sure, but, seems to me I heard about them everytime I was there.....in the summer camping. I'll dig around today and see if I can find some articles that I know I've got somewhere. I don't know of any guides for that lake.

I used to live in Salem. I fished Detroit a bit. I first of the two rivers is the Brightenbush, the second is the Santiam. I have had the best luck for kokanee and trout on the Santiam arm in the fall and the Dam in the spring. The Brightenbush is a kick-ass trout stream for a fly fisher that is regurally stocked by the state. Great spot to fish, good luck!
