Trout Lines for lake fishing
      #30923 - 05/02/01 10:59 PM

If you had to have two fly lines for a lake which ones would they be? I would choose a floating line and a slow sinker. Both in a wf line size 6. The wf for ease of casting and the size 6 because thats what most of my trout stuff is already. Not to big but big enough to get some distance when needed.

Marty, that is pretty sound reasoning, but I'm going to change tactics this year, and get one of the Multi-tip lines. Same running line, just has different tips (floating, slow, intermediate, and fast sink)that loop together. No extra spools to carry, just a small wallet the size of a leader wallet that holds the extra tips. Cabelas, Cortland, and Rio all make them, with the price running from low (Cabelas) to high (Rio).

Greg I have that style of lines for the river and they are the best. I can see how they could be useful in some situations on a shallow lake. What if your fishing a deep lake? The running line is normally a floater. Just a thought

Only 2 lines Marty???...are you trying to kill me?

My choices would be a floating and a DC Type 1 sink. I fish an intermediate line 90% of the time in lakes but you can fish a little deeper water with the type I sink then you can with the intermediate.
