Setting up your trout box new
      #30927 - 05/03/01 09:53 PM

Starting with a bare fly box and you can choose to carry any flies you want. What flies would you put in the box and what would be the first one you would grab. My fly box is geared towards river dry fly fishing with a little lake mixed in. I would put some Royal coachmen, elk hair caddis with different bodies, stone flies, muddlers, wooly buggers in varying colors and tails, carey specials, and lastly some leaches. The first fly out of my box would be the elk hair caddis for dry fly river fishing. I just love watching them pluck them out of the surface.

Marty, my fly box has some of the same patterns, but I also fish more wet than dry. I like muddlers (especially coneheads), wooly buggers, coachman, and my all time fave wet for trout is the Grey Ghost...netted a 6 lb. wild brown in Missouri on that one. For drys, I like a terrestial, like Joe's Hopper, or a good mayfly pattern, color depending on the hatch.
