Fly line Preference new
      #30939 - 05/20/01 07:01 PM

While I wait for my Monic and continue to use my SA ultra, let me ask this.
Whats your favorite fly line( for easy casting, distance, taper etc.)
I know that I disliked my Cortland 444 Sl Salmon / Steelhead.
Like the Teeny series sink tips and
for the easyiest to cast Like the SA supreme 2 and the Ultra. I have some Orvis Silver label Hyflote but have not used it yet.
Also I like the DT from SA.
I know I have different preference for certain species so this is for Salmon and steelhead or the Tarpoon for the flats guy.

You probably won't believe this until you try it. IMO the best salmon/steelhead line is a S.A. Air Cell. It has a short fat belly in it and it works great. The regular 444 (not the SL) is a pretty good line also, but not as good for salmon/steelhead. For trout the 444 is good because it seems to stay in the air longer and is more delicate for dry flies. Go to a fly shop and cast the 444 and the Air Cell side by side and compare them. You also might want to go 1 size heavier than what the rod is. Hope this helps!

For steelhead, the Mastery Steelhead Taper by SA. This line has an extra long belly on so it mends and roll casts awesome plus it shoots heavy flies and indicator rigs with ease.

I wish SA made this line in all lines size, just not 6-9.

Special I have a SA Mastery Series Spey/Salmon Taper in WF-12/13-F so you must be talking about a nonspey line. I butchered mine at the end of the front taper and loop my sink tips or floater on at that point. Now talk about a thick floating line . Now if I can get the rod to balance on the foregrip. Need to add a bunch of weight to the butt..guess I got a project again.
