Regulation Question. Riddle me this.
      #309677 - 11/19/07 06:34 PM

Riddle me this.

I understand that my shotgun can't be capable of holding more than 3 shells.

Can I have 2 loaded shotguns (1 w/ goose loads and the other w/ duck) in the boat for my use? I'm guessing I can, as long as both are legal firearms IE: deer hunting w/ a rifle and a sidearm.

I hope so. Would be nice not to have to switch out loads everytime a goose flies over.

I have never read anything in the regs to the contrary, but then again I do not have a WDFW Ph D.

It is legal federally, but WA might not like the idea. It is legal in Idaho.

Yep you can I do it all the time and I have had fed and state come up to me like they were going to just rip me a new one and well. They can’t. BUT HAVE some sort of holder in the blind for the second gun. One loaded gun in a blind with a dog is risky let a loan one unattended. Jim

Thanks. That makes my week. I went through the regs w/ a fine tooth comb and couldn't find anything that says different. Adds a whole new angle to my hunting.

Hey Wade,
I would contact WDFW and ask for written clarification. You live in OLY...just go to the enforcement office and get the answer in writing. My opinion.

I second that Doc, the regs we get are just so we can get the jist of it, not even close to the whole legal definition.

Ya, that was my plan before I implemented it into my hunting. They love me down there, lol. I'll let you know what I find out.

Wade you may have 2 or even a dozen shotguns at hand as long as none of them are capale of having more than 3 rounds. You may attract the attentions of a WDFW LE officer due to your blind putting out an extraordinary amount of anti-aircraft fire. I've been in a couple hunting situations where I considered having a second shotgun at hand especially several unique green wing teal opportunities. A certain spot on Padilla Bay consistently has several hours of teal flights every 5 to 10 minutes with each flight numbering 20 to 100 teal over about 2 hours time. One of those times when your gun barrel actually will cause 2nd degree burns if you touch it.

Had that happen on a Scoter hunt one time, protecting clams.

I never knew you could have a second gun ready. I am definitely going to do that this winter. We have some deep water river hunts where a loaded crip-buster would come in really handy.

Got the final nod down at the f&w office. That wasn't before a few odd looks at the question I was asking. Moral of the story - Yall are right, can have multiple weapons, as long as they are legal for what you're hunting, and fall with in the equipment regs.

I just added a second gun mount in the back of my boat. Tee Hee.

I've been in several duck situations where I needed a services of a "Gungadin the Gun Bearer!" Greenwing teal will do that to you. Those 3 rounds in an autoloader disappears fast when you have a couple hundred of those bahstads breaking formation!
