Went out today and got three very nice dollies, just could not find Mr.Steel! Dollies were all in the 3,4,5lb range, not much for my 9wt to handle but I enjoyed them. They are sure beautiful fish.
I know this might get the hackles up on a few folks, but fly fishing is a lot like jig fishing without the float. I've learned to handle a roll cast pretty well and use it most of the time.
I see a lot of questions here and on other boards too about lines, leaders, flys, and such. As far as I'm concerned the idea is to get the fly down to the fish and concentrate on the best holding water. I can say for sure that bead or conehead olive wooly-buggers have really done the job for me this last 5 weeks.
For winter I use a 9wt with fast sinking tip and weighted flys, sometimes not though. Leaders can be as complicated as you want but for winter I go with good mono or florocarbon, in 8-12-15 and even 20lb wt. straight off the spool, and you really don't need to be casting great long distances either, leave that to the spey guys, all the fish I've caught have usually been within 10 to 15 feet of me, on leaders that usually run about 15 or 16 inches, sometimes even less.
OK I know nobody asked and not trying to brag, just thought I'd sound of a bit. Tight lines everyone!

Heck consider me asking ...I built the board so folks could do exactly what you just did...share.
I agree the questions really are sometimes not focused enough on the end purpose. Fly in front of fish in the best holding water. The same argument carries over to the other fishing styles. We call the nymphers jig fishermen..

Keep sharing, Papafish. I have an interest but just lack the know-how and the time. My daughter is all over fly fishing and it is only a matter of time before she twists my arm to take up this manner of sport fishing. I am really interested in hearing your stories and your how to's.
