Fly Fishing Instruction new
      #31001 - 02/12/02 05:42 AM

I recieved a fly fishing rod and reel for Father's day lastyear, and I have not taken the time to learn how to use it. Are there any fly fishing schools or instructors in the Tacoma area that can help me get stated with the basics, mainly casting. I made a fool of myself in the front yard the other day. [Eek!] Any help would be appreciated

Your'e in luck. Fly fishing is the most widely written about and videotaped kind of fishing there is. Any bookstore or fly shop will have volumes on the subject. Lefty Kreh has videos and books for the beginning fly caster. There are many more (Joan or Lee Wulff come to mind), but Lefty is probably one of the foremost casting guys as of late.

The Morning Hatch fly shop in Tacoma will be able to set you up with lessons if you want them. My suggestion to you is: learn on your own using your local library. That is how I learned and I had an absolute blast. Believe me, becoming adept with flies will improve your understanding of all fishing.

You had it right. Tie a piece of yarn on the end of your leader and practice hitting a bucket on the front yard . . . that is the easiest way to learn casting rythm.
