I'm a beginning fly-tier, and would like to tie up some steelhead flys. If anyone knows of any good tying manuals with good pics and info, please let me know. Any personal experience tips, etc. would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey fish-on, I have tied for years and have many fly how to/recipie manuals, but the best i've run across is the Fly Tiers Bench Side Reference. It's spendy (100.00) but it just came out in CD rom for half the price. what makes it so excellent is it has the "how to" for any technique. you can get recipies anywhere, as there is no shortage of fly tying websites full of pics and recipes. Good luck, and let me know what you're tying!

Thanks for the ideas guys.
Jmswope: I'm just getting started into fly-fishing for steelhead, I've always fly-fished for trout though. This is my first year steelheading and so far I've stuck to gear-fishing. This summer I'm moving to Idaho and I'll be close to the Grande Ronde, Salmon, Snake, and Clearwater. As fly-fishing is my true love, I'd really like to carry it over to steelheading and from what I hear, these 4 river are perfect for it. To be honest, I'm really not sure which patterns I will be using on these rivers-I'm sure that I will soon know. If you have any suggestions or experience on any of these rivers, please feel free to share if you feel so inclined.

Sounds good Stew, I actually havent fly fished since they quit letting any significant numbers of fish into the upper Kalama. Need to get back into it, probably the most fun way to catch Steelhead. Used to love catching those big summer run pigs My e-mail is down at the moment but I will send you an e-mail.
