Other than the "ZSpey" zip that I know of. Well, a couple of new line designs for guys who want to 'cast a country mile.'

The NextCast WA lines are not really new and they are not available anyway unless one can find a experienced one.

Here are a few of the new things.

Rio has replaced the MidSpey and GrandSpey with a midlength line called the Power Spey. Rio also has the AFS heads and poly leaders to go with them.

Airflo has the Compact Skagit heads.

SA has a couple of new running lines in the Spey Monocore and Dragontail. The have the skagit lines as heads only, have come out with single hand skagit heads with tips and as heads only. SA also has some scandi lines out now.

Royal Wulff has a new multi tip spey line coming out.

Saracione has a new classic style reel coming out in spey sizes as well as a couple smaller sizes.

I don't know what if anything Guideline has that is new. They have a great deal of cool spey tackle and it works very well.

Roger on the availability of the Nextcast lines. Very limited production from what I can tell. That said, the few folks I've seen cast them can really rip line.

No clue as to how they fish.

Well if 'new' is all you want, check out the multitude of fishing lines available in the UK. Many of these never see the light of day on our side of the Pond.

Well it's nearly CLA time in the UK where all the new Spey toys will be on show for the first time.
One thing thats new in the US, is Scott Mackenzie's Speycasting Masterclass DVD (three times world champion, and regarded in the UK as the best there is), Mr Redshed has some of the first copies in store.

I wouldn't be to hasty in writing off Nextcast. It is a very small company with a cutting edge product that is extremely popular with two handed consumers.

There will be more Nextcast lines, hopefully by Fall and they will be even better then the last models, which rocked.

LOTS of very good reviews from our GB/Euro brethern. Sounds like it's well worth dropping the dime. Also understand that Simon G's updated his book on spey casting and included a section on Skagit Casting.

Edit: Dang, forgot to ask Redshed. Any idea whose manufacturing the Next Cast lines for Simon?

Now that's funny. Actually the only river I know that really requires (well, one river and one section of a river) that really requires LOOOOOOONG casts is the Deschutes. Fish hold anyplace in that darned river.

The other is the lower Rogue as it's wider than heck above Gold Beach and the 'slots' are quite away out in the river. Other than that, 70-80 foot casts will cover the majority of water you're likely to fish.

Fred, the Skagit (which Nick speaks of) is extremely wide, and it too can have fish anywhere. It is where Dec Hogan and that crowd had those killer pictures taken with like 200 feet of line in the air and the awesome mountains in the background. Having fished both the Skagit and the Deschutes, I'd say the Skagit is probably a longer reach...but both are clearly made for the 2 hander.

Ya, the Skagit has some pretty big, wide stretches that hold fish. I've done halfway decent for my crappy casting though. (KerryS can back me up that I am not lying about my skills, I really am NOT a good caster, trust me lol). Doesn't mean I don't try.

Here are some Skagit pics if you aren't familiar with it. If you are, then nevermind, enjoy the scenery.

Looks like the fly bar here in Rockport
http://www.emeraldwateranglers.com/images/skagit_russellmixermountain.jpg

I believe this is Rockport
http://img.getactivehub.com/dawn/custom_images/wildernessII/NC_Skagit_River.jpg

And here's my goofy self with the Skagit in the background, although I got this fish at about 40' out, I have pulled a steelhead out of this spot at well over 140' with my baitcaster by launching a big fat knarley pink worm with my gear into a spot about 3' deep behind some rocks out in the middle of the river, so fly guys that cast that long could do the same. That's how Ed Ward does it.

Thanks Nick, been YEEEEAAAARRRS since I've seen the Skagit. Walk down memory lane.

Yo Gordon, reading a thread on a UK fly board; gather 'getting into' the site was a Royal Pain (assuming you just didn't give up) in the butt.

Hi Fred,
Boy what a show, around 150,000 people there in the blistering heat, when you looked along fishing village, all you could see was fly rods on display, must have been two thousand on view.
I took loads of pic's of all the new Spey stuff, now just to wait until the airline finds my bags.
I had no problem getting in to the event, as i sneaked in with Scott and Way who were doing a daily demo, even royalty came to watch them.
I will do a full report as soon as i can get a chance Fred, but i left London at 3am this morning, and i'm pretty tired.
The highlightwas Hywel Morgans Daughter in the ladies overhead Speycasting final..... and she's 9 years old, and ryan coming second or third in the Speycasting final... and he's 15.
will post a report on the good ,bad and ugly in the Spey world when i get a chance if you want Fred.
Gordon.

Apart from everything else at the show, Hardy's will have the Perfect out in January, only in Trout sizes to start with, cost around $500.00 and made at Alnwick in England.
Exactly the same as the old Perfect, something Hardy's should have done years ago.

Sorry Fred,
Been crazy busy this last while, i have some photo's from the CLA ans will try and post them, lots of new Toys at the show, and a few interesting things to come, House of Hardy had a field day at the show (being so close to London), but the old wonky handled Spey rod..still there i think and everybody's gone.
Will see what i can do for photo's, but off to BC soon and i ain't nowhere near ready.
Scott Mackenzie and Way Yin did the best demo of the whole weekend, but the distance casting was watched only by a small crowd.. think its days are numbered unless they change the format.
Gordon.

Fred I have no idea who is rolling Simon Hiesh's lines now. It might still be 22M or maybe he found someone else. I have heard the redesigned prototypes rock.

I've heard the same thing, but funny/odd as it may seem I've yet to cast one of these guys. Probably a good thing as I already could stock a good sized shop ........
