My dad and I are blacktail hunters. He just finished mounting another board of racks yesterday. It's all 2-points from the same area. Two are mine, two are his. The map on the left is something I put together. I ordered maps of Snohomish, Skagit, and Whatcom counties, pinned them on a board, then put pictures of all the bucks around the edge and marked the site where each buck was killed. The pin color on the pictures matches the pin color marking the kill sites. There is thread attaching each photo to it's site. There's 26 sites marked. We have room for about three more photos around the edge.
Last year he mounted the rack from my big 3-point.
He also did a group of four big bucks that came from the same area. The third from the left is mine, the rest are his.
They all have a story. The wood is from an old barn in Sedro Woolley. We have a bunch of other racks that he's going to mount as soon as we can decide which ones should be together.

From the similarity of those racks, the genes in that area must be VERY strong for those racks. I guess 2-pointers with similar racks are the results of some "super-stud" dominant buck in the distant past!

Oops, I guess I cut the map out of the picture. How did that happen?
We've held some of the smaller racks up to some of the bigger ones for comparison. It's not very scientific, but some of them have very similar characteristics.
The second 2pt from the bottom was killed this year. The angle of the pic doesn't show it, but it branches out very wide for it's size and the points don't turn in at all. It's like a younger version of the large 3pt that's mounted solo, which I killed last year. The color is the same and they were killed within 100yds of each other.
My uncle (aunt's husband) is a long time blacktail hunter and was a big part of my early hunting life. He's got a few mounts that will be mine some day. A couple of them were killed by his father back in the 50's.

Great idea. I've been thinking of doing something similar for my dad and uncle for a long time. I hadn't thought about connecting the maps and the mounts though. Gonna have to be careful about who you let over to the house now... Check camera phones, notepads, etc at the door.
We've got some mulie sheds from the 30s that my gramps and great uncles shot. Man those bucks were gnarly! Uncle just built an extension to one of the sheds at the ranch and was thinking of making some sort of shed display, would be cool to incorporate a map with them somehow... Keeps the tradition strong and something to be very proud of!

Jake, lets grind em up into powder, bottle it up, and see if we can sell it at Hooters. If they won't market it we might find a local Oriental Market willing to take it off "our" hands.
Just kidding of course, in the event any readers feel compelled to jump in with unsolicited legal advice.
