Expensive swimbaits
      #314847 - 12/30/07 05:37 AM

Basstrix swimbaits are really getting bid up on Ebay. I bet these things would work in the salt for salmon, either behind a flasher or straight off the downrigger ball. But who the heck would want to pay $26 for 3 of them?

Ya, they're quite item. I haven't bought any of the newer versions, but I know I've seen individual swimbaits that cost just as much, and more... I lose too much gear, no thx.

Hey Pinch.
Check that site out for your bass gear. Lots of good stuff!

If I was throwing a $250 Swimbait I would have to bring the scuba gear with me, otherwise it would be very painful to break it off in a snag.

How bouts in a big striped bass? You would have to get a spear gun and haunt his world for a while...

Shaun - right on bro. I was all over it the moment I checked your link. Whoops Also checked out some more of the swim baits on eBay. Thing that bugs me is we aren't really a shad fishery. Saw a bluegill one that was over a couple hundred as well.

I have a few ones that look like bluegill. They also work good in lakes that have rockbass. They work good if your fishing beds. It gets em all worked up and then flip a smaller tube in there and they smash it!

I think I would carry depth charges with me to stun any big stripers that broke off with my $250 swimbait.

When Thomas and I went down the fishing show in Vegas last summer we saw some of those $50 plus lures. Someone would have to do a lot of work to convince me that they are worth that much money. I will say that some of them do look reaaaaly realistic. Some even had texture that mimicked fish skin.

I just can't imaging losing one of those puppies. I get ticked enough at losing a trolling rig at $10-$15.

Another thing that is catching on down here is custom paint jobs for lures. You buy the lure from your favorite retailer, remove the hooks, send it to the painter and for about $10/lure you get a custom paint job.

I have a airbrush and have been thinking about trying to paint some plugs. Just for fun. I know theres a few guys who custom paint kwikies. I have 10 brand new unpainted hotshots I was gonna play around with. Just havnt found the time yet.

Here are some pics I took at ICAST of some of the new lures.

This one was pretty, but I would cry if I had to pay to replace it.

This one looks pretty believable.

I want to hang one of these on a rod when we are tournament fishing just to confuse people. "Yup... Those are all we drag these days..."

I was watching a show where they were bass fishing on Lake Ouchita here in Arkansas, they were spanking schooling bass using a Shad King, which is a hard body swimbait made by Strike King. Went online to check them out at Basspro - $21.00 !!! each. But they sure looked good.

My buddie is releasing some new plastic body swim bodies this weekend at the Monroe show. These are the thumper type swim bodies that you put on a 3/4 to 1.5 oz. head. They looked pretty good to me so I'll try throwing them. During testing they caught some nice fish. Lots cheaper then the Califonia style.

Does he have a website where you can see pics of his swimbaits and pricing?
